Spanish Property : Power of Attorney
It is common practice in Spanish property transactions, in order to
avoid the purchaser having to make numerous visits to the Spain during
the purchase process, to give power of attorney to the lawyer taking
care of your affairs. This not only allows him to sign on your behalf
at the various stages of the purchase process, including the final Notarised
escritura, it also allows him to set up electricity, water, telephone
contracts etc. This can be a very convenient way of ensuring all aspects
relating to the purchase of the new property can be dealt with correctly
and without effort.
Once a decision to purchase has been made, it is worth considering
arranging a power of attorney at the Notary's office before you leave
Spain.
